Collaboration - Submission Post

Reflective Statement

This project was an eye opener into the industry standard and working in a collaborative group. I learnt how to approach working in a group as well as how to assist others. Everyone has a different way of working and finding a way to balance that was defiantly a worry of mine at the beginning of the project. I feel that the opportunity to work with others was a big help to me as I struggle to grasp lots of the Maya centric work and it usually takes me a few tries to perfect whatever I am working on. I found it comforting to know that there were people able to assist if I had any questions, but also I was able to help group members with their work. I am naturally introverted and I think this project helped me to get out of the habit keeping to myself. I think that by the end of this project I was able to communicate well with my group and convey all of my ideas successfully.

Initially our group was very productive and we quickly came up wit lots of ideas. I think our issue was not being able to plan ahead in terms of workloads against skill. I underestimated how difficult it would be to animate three Moom characters at once having very little animation experience. I defiantly need to improve on speaking up and asking for help when I need it. In terms of story building I think I have improved my story boards and script writing. In the final version of our film, due to time constraints, things were cut, and some of the key narrative moments were lost making the overall idea a bit confusing for the audience. As the project went on it was really a case of deadlines and getting work done on time. As the producer I organised the delaines and what needed to be done. As a group time keeping could have been improved as I found myself chasing after unfinished work from one group member and ultimately having to complete the work in my own time. Looking back, although this is a collaboration project, I feel as though the quality of my work slipped at the expense of completing another group members tasks when I could have focused on myself more. I thoroughly enjoyed the pre-production phase of this project and I am happy with the work I produced for that. I think that as a group member I contributed a lot of time and effort to creating our final piece.

I found out quickly that animation is unforgiving and can be highly frustrating, however, I produced a piece of animation and I am glad that I persevered through the process. I know that this is something I need to practice on in the future, so will make an effort to do so for the benefit of my next project. There were a few discrepancies in the group which lowered the moral somewhat. I mad an effort to sort out any issues we had and try and resolve arguments. In group work these things are inevitable as four different people's opinions are not always going to be the same. I think that during these times I kept my professionalism and tried to create a good outcome for everyone. Overall, I know that our final outcome was not the best, but, I'm happy with what I produced. There were lots of obstacles throughout (personal and group related), however, I produced work to the best of my ability and I can honestly say that I worked really hard from start to finish. If anything this project as been insightful and a good learning experience.
